Spartanburg Company Issues a Major Food Recall

Here in Spartanburg, residents are wrestling not only with a steady afternoon rain forecast but also news of a major food recall. Yu Shang Food Inc., a prominent local food manufacturer, announced it’s pulling a hefty 4,589 pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry items off the shelves, causing a ripple of concern through the community.

What’s Being Recalled?

The company issued the recall, which is flagged as a Class I, on November 9. A Class I recall means there’s a substantial probability that using the recalled product can result in serious health implications, or even death. The products in question were made between October 21-27, with use-by dates ranging from August 21-27, 2025.

A Chilly Response From The Company

When asked about the recall, the companyโ€™s plant manager Ling Li didn’t have anything to comment. Nonetheless, itโ€™s important to know which products are under the recall. The products bear the establishment number โ€œP-46684โ€ or โ€œEST. M46684โ€ inside the USDA inspection mark. Check your pantries folks, because you might have the 1.4-pound Yushang Brand Cooked Pork Hock, 20-ounce Bazhen Seasoned Whole Chicken, 16-ounce Braised Beef Shank, 12-ounce Seasoned Pork Tongues, or even the 8-ounce Chinese Brand Spicy Chicken Feet tucked away. If you find any, better pitch them.

Rain or Shine, It’s Not the First Time

Surprisingly, it’s not the first time such an incident has happened. After conducting routine testing and follow-up activities on the finished product, the recall notice stated that the USDA discovered the problem on October 21, finding that the Yushang Food Inc. product was testing positive for Listeria.

Whatโ€™s Next for The Customers?

Notice from the company states that the affected goods have already been distributed to retail locations countrywide, and are even available online. If you have purchased these products, it is strongly advised not to consume them. Return them to the place of purchase if possible.

Listeriosis: It will knock you for six

As for that Listeria infection, it’s a nasty one, especially for older people, pregnant women, newborns, and folks with weakened immune systems. Professional advice says to watch out for fever, muscle aches, headaches, and a stiff neck among other symptoms. However, it could sometimes be sneakier, starting with diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms.

Take Home Message

With the rain warming up and potential for heavy rainfall ahead, the last thing locals needs is food contamination concerns. Always check your pantry and stay safe, folks. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
