Spartanburg County Receives Burning Ban Amid Safety Concerns
Attention residents of Spartanburg County, your outdoor autumn bonfires will have to wait! An announcement was made early on the morning of October 1 that a State Forester’s Burning Ban has been placed across 20 counties, including Spartanburg County. The ban, which covers all outdoor burning, including yard debris, went into effect at 6 a.m., and it’s going to hold until further notice.
The ban extends into the realm of forestry, wildlife, and controlled burns in unincorporated areas. But, don’t get your marshmallows in a twist just yet. This temporary regulation won’t affect those fires you’ve set up for meal prep or the ones contained in your outdoor fireplaces, chimineas or permanent fire pits. Looks like your barbeque plans are safe for now!
Why the Burning Ban?
In response to significant damage caused by Helene, this burning ban aims to alleviate the burden on firefighting personnel and law enforcement officials. Many of these brave folks have been dispatched to the areas affected by the damage, assisting with the clean-up job, assessing the damage, and clearing roads. The banning is a proactive measure to curb potential wildfires, keeping in mind the community’s safety and the wellbeing of these hard-working personnel.
State Forester Scott Phillips declared the ban following a discussion with Gov. Henry McMaster and other emergency response organizations. The conversation centered on reducing the risks of wildfire ignitions further. As for when we can expect the ban to be lifted โ we’ll have to wait for the official announcement from the Forestry Commission.
What Other Counties Are Under the Burning Ban?
It’s not just Spartanburg County facing the ban. Other counties under the burn ban are Abbeville, Aiken, Anderson, Cherokee, Chester, Edgefield, Fairfield, Greenville, Greenwood, Laurens, Lexington, McCormick, Newberry, Oconee, Pickens, Richland, Saluda, Union, and York. So, no need to feel singled out.
In the meantime, why not turn this ban into an opportunity to explore some indoor recreational activities? Have you checked out Five Below’s mix and match Christmas pajamas for the entire family? Or perhaps you can use the time to discover the numerous beauty products that qualify for use with your tax-free dollars, making your indoor time a bit more beautiful.
And hey, let’s keep the spirit up. The ban won’t last forever, and soon we’ll be back to our outdoor activities. Until then, let’s keep our county safe and support the decision for the common good.
