As their families prepare to say their final goodbyes, tributes are pouring in for Peggy Prince Harris, James Larry Parris, Joyce Murray Browning, and Daniel Kyle Smith, each leaving a meaningful legacy behind.

Peggy Prince Harris – A Life of Faith and Family

Peggy Prince Harris, aged 90, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2025. Born in Spartanburg on March 3, 1934, she was the beloved daughter of the late Julian Rhett Prince and Clara Wilder Prince. Peggy was predeceased by her husband, William “Billy” Harris, and her son, Donnie Harris.

Her memory lives on through her children—Stan (Sharon) Harris, Kenny (Anna) Harris, Kathi (Eddie) Mumpower, Ronnie (Elaine) Harris, and Angie Harris—as well as her eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Known for her unwavering faith, Peggy devoted her life to sharing the gospel and impacting those around her. Family and friends can pay their respects on January 16, 2025, from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Beaumont Baptist Church, followed by a funeral service at 2:30 PM, conducted by Rev. John Lee and Rev. Manning Strickland, with burial at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

James Larry Parris – A Craftsman with a Heart

James Larry Parris, a treasured member of the Spartanburg community, passed away on January 13, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on March 29, 1948, in Cherokee County, James was the son of the late Junior Parris and Thelma Pack Parris. A retired construction worker, he was also an active member of New Beginnings Christian Fellowship Church.

Survived by his children—Lori Wall (Terry Alexander), Becky Gregg (Danny), and Ray Parris (Kaye)—James enjoyed a close-knit family that includes ten grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. Remembering him will comfort those left behind, especially as they honor his legacy. Friends and family can gather for visitation on January 15, 2025, from 6 PM to 8 PM at New Beginnings Christian Fellowship Church. The funeral service will follow on January 16, 2025, at 2:00 PM, with burial taking place at Hammett Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Joyce Murray Browning – A Caring Soul

Joyce Murray Browning, a long-time Spartanburg resident, passed on January 7, 2024. Born to the late William “Bill” Dexter and Ethel Katherine Bowen Murray, Joyce graduated from Spartanburg High School and pursued further education at Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing.

Her career included working as an Administrative Assistant at Spartan Mills, before retiring from J. F. Floyd Mortuary after 15 years. Joyce was also a charter member of Eastside Baptist Church, where she served in various capacities. She leaves behind her husband, Edward C. Browning, and children Leslie B. Lybrand, Dana B. Anglin, and Aaron M. Baughman, along with six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on January 14, 2025, from 10 AM to 10:45 AM at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, with the funeral service starting at 11 AM.

Daniel Kyle Smith – A Bright Light

Tragedy struck as Daniel Kyle Smith unexpectedly passed away at the young age of 42 on January 8, 2025. Born on August 8, 1982, in Spartanburg, Daniel had taken the path of success after graduating from Spartanburg Day School in 2000 and attending the University of South Carolina. He worked as a Pharmaceutical Representative at Smith’s Drug Company, shining brightly in both his professional and personal life.

Survived by his mother Angela Cohen Amos, brother David Kenneth Smith, Jr., and sister Lindsay Metcalf, Daniel was an accomplished piano player, fluent in German, and held a black belt in Karate, showcasing his immense talents. Friends can honor his memory during visitation on January 14, 2025, from 6 PM to 8 PM at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, with the funeral service taking place on January 15, 2025, at 1 PM, followed by a cryptside service at 2 PM at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum.

In these trying times, the Spartanburg community is coming together to support one another and honor the remarkable lives of these four individuals. Their memories will undoubtedly shape the hearts of many for years to come.
