District Leaders Vote to Name Part of Spartanburg Co. High School After Former Coach
SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. – Spartanburg County School District 3 announced that the Board of Trustees voted unanimously Monday night to name a part of Broome High School after a former coach from the school. District officials said the guidance wing of the school will be renamed in honor of Marion “Dooley” Miller.
Naming in Honor
Earlier this year, a group began pushing for a gymnasium at the school to be renamed for Miller. District officials explained that a committee reviewed the idea and recommended naming the guidance wing in his honor since they believed his “impact was more far-reaching than coaching his players.”
“Mr. Miller influenced a greater number of students, staff, parents, and community members through his special connection to people, his servant leadership, his guidance and counseling through his words of wisdom, and of course his humor as these, in addition to serving as a coach, embody his inspirational and outstanding contributions to Spartanburg School District Three,” said Spartanburg School District Three Superintendent Dr. Julie Fowler.
Dedication Planned
District officials stated that they plan to hold a dedication for the guidance wing during the 2024-25 school year.
