Incident Comes to Light

The victim’s mother reported the alleged sexual assault on May 4th, after finding her child visibly upset following a brief period when the Lopez and the child were left alone at their home on Old Greenville Road. Concerned for her child’s wellbeing, she immediately contacted the police. The child divulged to her mother that Lopez had sexually molested her during their brief time alone.

Immediate Investigation

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office immediately launched a full-scale investigation into these harrowing charges. Medical examination of the young victim at the local hospital revealed signs of sexual assault. Moreover, the child, during conversation with a nurse, disclosed a history of ongoing sexual abuse since the age of seven. This supported the initial allegations made against Lopez.

Suspect Charged

Based on the investigation and substantiated claims by the young victim, arrest warrants were swiftly issued for Lopez. The 39-year-old man has been charged with one count of first degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and five counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

Given the severity of the first degree charge, Lopez remains incarcerated pending arraignment. He is due to appear before a circuit court judge to determine his bond status. No potential court dates have been announced yet.
