Hub City Spartanburgers Stadium on Track for April Opening

“Everyone speaks with high confidence that in April 2025, we will be opening a fully functional ballpark to the people of Spartanburg,” Hub City Spartanburgers General Manager Tyson Jeffers.

Construction Status and Future Plans

In Spartanburg, the construction crew, along with the stadium’s developer, The Johnson Group, are collectively working towards finishing Fifth Third Park stadium in time for the grand opening. According to Tyson Jeffers, General Manager of the Hub City Spartanburgers, the ballpark is on schedule to be ready for occupancy by early spring next year. Jeffers gave a presentation to the Spartanburg City Council outlining the progress and future plans for the stadium on July 22, 2024.

P>Jeffers informed the council members that preparations are underway for scheduling events beyond baseball, for making the stadium a versatile venue catering to concerts and private events as well. As part of their goal to utilize the stadium even on non-match days, ticket sales have already commenced.

‘Belly-up’ no more

Along with the seating bowl construction that is currently in progress, Jeffers also shed light on some new features that the stadium will incorporate to enhance the visitor experience. This includes a revamp of the traditional โ€˜belly-upโ€™ concession stands. In place of stalls where customers walk up to order, the stadium will feature a marketplace-style setup, essentially providing a self-service experience unless ordering something special.

Plans also include a dynamic concourse that will cater to a wide range of demographics with specialized zones for adult beverages, non-adult beverages, and kid areas.

Details about the new team and stadium

The Spartanburg team announced on July 23 that it will be playing in the High-A South Atlantic League starting the 2025 season. Other members of the league include the Greenville Drive and the Asheville Tourists. The Spartanburgers team, along with two other teams in the South Atlantic League, is owned by Diamond Baseball Holdings(DBH). DBH commands a strong presence in the baseball world with ownership of 32 other teams across 21 states and one in Canada.

Fifth Third Park, located on South Daniel Morgan Avenue in Spartanburg, boasts a 3500 seat capacity and comes with a price tag of $58.6 million. The design for the stadium, which received the final nod of approval from the city’s Design Review Board in March, is set to become a new crowning gem of the town.
