Spartanburg GM Assures Timely Stadium Development

In the heart of Spartanburg, ambitious construction continues as the new Hub City Spartanburgers Stadium, known as the Fifth Third Park, is reportedly on track for an April 2025 opening.

During a recent Spartanburg City Council meeting, General Manager of the Hub City Spartanburgers, Tyson Jeffers, expressed high confidence in the stadium’s timely completion. According to Jeffers, the stadium’s developer, The Johnson Group, and the construction crew are working diligently to ensure a “fully functional ballpark ready to welcome the Spartanburg community” by the commencement of the 2025 season.

Selling Tickets and Seating Bowl Construction

With such assurances, the team has already begun selling tickets and planning events beyond baseball. Special events include concerts and private gatherings, intended to make use of the stadium space even during off-baseball times. Simultaneously, the seating bowl is under active construction. “The pre-fab seating bowl is starting to get dropped. I think they started last week and that’s continuing through this week,” Jeffers reported during the meeting. Upon completion, work on enclosing the entire service and team level will begin, paving the way for interior infrastructure development.

Crafting Concession Areas

Promising a unique customer experience, the stadium is said to dismiss traditional belly-up concession stands, replacing them with self-serve marketplaces. Specialty purchases will be managed through portable stands scattered throughout the premises. Jeffers mentioned, “adult beverage areas, non-adult beverage areas, kid zones — all will exist on the concourse with a goal to meet the needs of as many demographics and age ranges as possible.”

The Hub City Spartanburgers Joins High-A South Atlantic League

On July 23, the Spartanburg-based team confirmed joining the High-A South Atlantic League for the 2025 season. Their competition will include notable teams like the Greenville Drive and the Asheville Tourists. Owned by Diamond Baseball Holdings (DBH), a notable stakeholder of 32 other baseball teams across 21 states and Canada, the Spartanburgers are one of the three teams in the South Atlantic League under the DBH umbrella.

About the Stadium

The stadium, designed to accommodate up to 3,500 spectators, will draw its location on South Daniel Morgan Avenue. With a budget nearing $58.6 million, the stadium project had received green signal from the city’s Design Review Board earlier this March. With its future establishment, enthusiasm bubbles within the Spartanburg community, eager and ready to welcome baseball back in the city.
