Ceremony Details

The special ceremony will be held at a special location in the city, 450 Wofford St, where locals typically gather for occasions of community significance. Wofford Street will resonate with the city’s collective heart as Spartanburg comes together to remember the tragedy.

The remembrance will start early, lighting the first candle of memory at 8:30 a.m. Respecting the significance of the time, the event will continue until 9:11 a.m. symbolizing the time when the unfortunate event originally occurred.

Commemorating the Lost Responders

During this emotional span of 41 minutes, the city will honor more than 400 responders who lost their lives on that tragic day. Each minute will mark a solemn homage to these brave souls who didn’t hesitate when duty called, reminding us that courage and selflessness are values that stand larger than life itself.

A Special Guest

Marking the event’s significance, the presence of retired FDNY firefighter Mark Gianni will lend even deeper respect to the remembrance. Gianni, who has answered the same call of duty in New York, will be a guest of honor to help pay tribute to his fallen comrades, lending a personal narrative to the collective memory of the day.

The Memorial Stair Climb

Alongside the main event, a special commemoration- Memorial Stair Climb– will take place at Fluor Field. This will provide an opportunity for participants to physically honor and remember the fallen of 9/11. Remembering their heroes, attendees will climb the stairs symbolizing the steep challenges our responders overcame on the tragic day.
