South Carolina is buzzing with anticipation as home-grown wrestling hero, John Skyler, readies himself to step into the ring for his inaugural bout with TNA Wrestling this weekend. The event marks TNA Wrestling’s first appearance in Spartanburg for a full decade, creating quite the homecoming for Columbia native Skyler who views the moment as a manifestation of his wrestling journey.
The man himself said, “It’s going to be cool to wrestle as a member of TNA in my home state for the very first time.” Skyler is no stranger to the unforgiving world of professional wrestling. He bravely ventured onto the stage, making a name for himself during his initial tryout with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Despite not making the cut, he saw it as fuel to ignite his wrestling career.
In his own words, Skyler recalls, “I was told from day one that I was too small to be a wrestler, that I would never make it.” But the dream never left him and instead, he used the criticisms and defeat as motivation, proving that anyone can succeed if they have the will and determination.
From School Teacher to Wrestling Star
Interestingly, Skyler took on the honorable job of a middle school teacher for almost ten years before he managed to secure a spot in TNA. Even after wrestling professionally full-time for half a decade, he still believes in the power of inspiration and empowering the younger generation.
He reveals, “I just know how impactful wrestling was for me. It’s gotten me through hard times in life. Hopefully, if I can motivate a kid out there to follow their dreams, whether it’s pro wrestling or something else. That’s where my head’s at as far as the next generation of kids.”
As he gears up to put on a sensational show, Skyler aims to make such an impact that TNA will continue to schedule more shows in his home state. With confidence and excitement, Skyler adds that TNA is home to the “most talented group of individuals” he’s ever encountered and if they leave everyone wanting more, then they’ve done their jobs well. They are eager to make South Carolina a regular fixture on their tour.

When it comes to the impending showdown on his home turf, Skyler dismisses any thoughts of defeat with a witty remark, “I ain’t losing in South Carolina. That’s just how it’s going to be.” This event promises a night of high-intensity wrestling action.
TNA Wrestling, which was established in 2001 after the World Championship Wrestling (WCW) wrapped up, has made waves in the local wrestling scene. Skyler suggests that collaborations with WWE shows could be on the horizon in the near future. Despite a slight delay due to Hurricane Helene, the TNA Impact show is now all set to enthrall fans on Sunday and Monday at 7 p.m. at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium.
