Upstate Power Update: Majority of the Outages Restored
Let’s talk power, folks! Here, in the heart of the Upstate, power restoration continues to progress, and there’s some good news on the horizon. As it stands, 90% of the outages caused by Duke Energy have been restored, and the work continues. But don’t uncross those fingers just yet! There are still more than 100,000 of our neighbors dealing with the inconvenience of a power outage. Sound like a lot? Well, it is, but things are steadily getting better.
According to figures from an impartial, national outage tracker, our beautiful state of South Carolina is leading the pack in terms of power outages, with a whopping 20% of customers still in the dark. It’s high, I know, but we’re not alone. Georgia and North Carolina are hot on our heels with many of their residents also battling blackout blues.
Duke Energy Continues Power Restoration Efforts
On the upside, Duke Energy, despite the current power hiccup, is doing their level best to restore power. They have managed to get the lights back on for 90% of those affected by outages. As of Saturday evening, around 93,000 Duke customers in South Carolina are still without power. So, if you’re reading this by candlelight, stay patient. Help is on the way.
Looking more specifically at the trends within the Upstate, the counties of Greenville and Spartanburg account for around 70% of the total outages. High numbers, indeed.
Efforts of Other Local Utility Companies
But it’s not just Duke Energy on the case. Other electricity suppliers are also stepping up their game. Blue Ridge Electric Co-Op, for instance, is working tirelessly right around the clock. As of Saturday evening, they have 5,300 customers still without power, but this team has shown their mettle, restoring power to over 2,000 customers just in the past 48 hours. Talk about dedication!
Our friends at Laurens Electric Cooperative are also doing their part to reduce the number of people reading by flashlight. Right now, they report about 10,000 of their customers are still unplugged as of Saturday evening. Interestingly enough, that’s a solid quarter of the utility’s customer base in Laurens and Spartanburg counties. Needless to say, they too are working tirelessly, just like Blue Ridge, to bring light to homes and smiles to faces.
Possible it might take time, but with multiple agencies working tirelessly, chances are much brighter that the lights will be soon enough. So, here’s hoping for a sparkling and power-packed future for our Upstate communities!
