Early Voting in South Carolina to Begin on the 21st of October

In a bid to shape the political course of South Carolina House of Representatives District 30, two candidates are looking forward to the coming election due on November 5th. As residents of Spartanburg and Cherokee counties, itโ€™s time to learn about the visions and plans these two contenders have to pave the way ahead.

Meet the Candidates

On one side of the ring we have Republican incumbent Brian Lawson, age 51, who dives into the election with his rich background in business management. Mr Lawson, a devoted husband and father of two, has been serving District 30 and has built a good rapport with his constituents. On the other side is the Democratic nominee Ysante McDowell, age 49, who is no less committed to her cause. Calling Spartanburg County home, McDowell is not only a businesswoman but also an author and founder of a nonprofit organization.

Both candidates have been long-standing members of their respective communities. McDowell has spent a considerable amount of her life in the Spartanburg County while Lawson has made the Chesnee area of Cherokee County his home for 20 years.

Where They Stand

While both contestants have involved themselves heavily in serving their communities, they both show divergent views on their top legislative priorities. Ysante McDowell, on one hand, lays emphasis on God, faith and familyโ€”bundling in the significant issues of the economy, education, and tackling gun violence.

Brian Lawson, on the other hand, promises to carry forward his role of being the voice for all citizens of the District 30. His plans include continuing to show unwavering support for first responders, veterans, and advocating for better roads and education.

While McDowell takes the issue of poverty to heart, Lawson acknowledges the needs of District 30, striving to meet these needs by promoting teamwork and relationship building, a principle he believes to be essential in any leadership role.

The Traits They Bring

Navigating her way through lifeโ€™s experience, McDowell relies on these lessons to run her candidacy. Lawson, with two years already under his belt as the District 30 Representative, banks on his experience. He puts his existing relationships with other House members, Senators, and a slew of state, county, and town officials to use in his bid for the next term.

The stage is set. The candidates have spoken. It will be exciting to witness how the pointer on the political compass swings. South Carolina, embrace to chart your future. Let your votes decide.
