Storm Cleanup in Spartanburg County To Extend Into Next Year

Friends, brace yourselves for some prolonged storm cleanup across Spartanburg County, with a forecast that isn’t so sunny as we head into 2025. The one-of-a-kind storm that recently swept across the county has left unprecedented amounts of debris in its wake, keeping the public works team and the contractors busier than ever.

Doug Bryson, the Director of county EMS, let us in on just how big this task is. “We’ve never seen anything of this magnitude in Spartanburg County,” noted Bryson. Evidently, this ain’t your everyday cleanup.

Operation Clean Sweep, One Day at a Time

Given the severity of the situation, county officials were quick to clarify that there’s no pick-up schedule to keep an eye out for. Instead, crews are working every single day, covering all corners of the county, sweeping up debris bit by bit. As Scottie Kay Blackwell, a county official mentioned, no part of the county was immune to the storm. “We didn’t prioritize a specific area or community,” she said.

In a bid to tackle the debris smoothly, five different management sites have been set up strategically across the county. These sites are helping the crews access or touch each region every single day. Now, that’s some well-mapped groundwork right there!

Patience is Key, So Hang in There!

But with all that said, the county’s got its work cut out. The clean-up crew will make as many passes on the county roads as it takes to clear all the debris away, but “it’s going to take quite a while,” warned Bryson. He’s asking for a little bit of patience from everyone during this time. Trust me, they’re doing their best.

What adds a tinge of extra challenge to this cleanup operation is the pressure of competing for resources with other harder hit states like North Carolina. Despite these odds, though, the county’s making some steady progress with the resources they have. Blackwell added, “We’re doing all that we can with the resources we have. We do hope to have more trucks and more resources but for the time being these crews that we have are working around the clock. We’re so grateful for their service.”

A Marvellous Job so Far!

The sense of dedication is truly commendable, friends! Tirelessly working around the clock, these crews are the unsung heroes bringing the Spartanburg County back to its original glory, one debris pile at a time. While the forecast of the cleanup operation might seem cloudy now, their hard work is sure to brighten up our tomorrow.
