ETSU Secures Historic 24-7 Victory Over Wofford in Spartanburg

Spartanburg: ETSU Triumphs in First Spartanburg Victory Since ’97

For the first time since 1997, Spartanburg, SC saw the ETSU triumph in a 24-7 victory. A stomp-your-feet, cheer-out-loud defensive display and a roaring comeback in the second half paved the way for this victory.

The star of the show – the Bucs’ ground game. This dynamo dished out more than 200 yards for the fifth time this season giving fans plenty to cheer about.

Who Led the Charge?

Standing tall at the helm was none other than Quarterback Jaylen King, with 12 attempts that racked up 88 yards and two touchdowns. Not far behind was Bryson Irby proving how much his return from injury meant to the team, chalking up 17 carries for a cool 67 yards.

A Struggle for the Terriers

The Terriers’ offense, on the other hand, had a tough day at the field. They could only scrounge up 178 total yards, never finding that groove they desperately needed. The day was a testament to the swashbuckling defense of the Blue and Gold which landed three sacks and seven tackles-for-loss, leaving their opponents disoriented.

Highlighted among the defenders was Teddy Wilson. Not only did he force a fumble on special teams, but he also led to an Elijah Taylor ‘scoop and score’. This stunt turned the tide right after halftime leaving fans at the edge of their seats.

A Game of Two Halves

The first half was a cagey affair. The lone scoring play came by the boot of Ewan Johnson who bravely slotted a 28-yard field goal. This proved to be the only sparkle in an otherwise tough tussle.

However, the third quarter saw Wilson hunting down Sam Spence, the punter who lost the ball on a mismanaged snap. Taylor’s touchdown recovery delighted the fans and ETSU led 10-0.

Wofford managed a small rally in the next drive as Bryce Corriston connected with Jordan Davis for a 29-yard touchdown. But the damage was done, and Corriston could only complete 8-of-19 for 103 yards for the entire day.

ETSU Takes Over

The remainder of the game was simply the Jaylen King show. The true sophomore scored dramatic touchdowns from 22 and 31 yards in the third and fourth quarters, secure the victory for ETSU.

To wrap up the match, ETSU defeated the Terriers with a commanding 24-7 score. ETSU, currently ranked 23 nationally, will gear up for their next challenge on the road as they prepare to meet a nationally-ranked Mercer. The kickoff is all set for 3 p.m. next Saturday and fans, we can assure you, this is a game you do not want to miss!
