In Spartanburg, we’re used to the weather fluctuating, but weโre definitely excited about the forecast this week. It’s going to be 55 degrees on Wednesday, warming up to 72 on Thursday, and it looks like Friday is set to be the warmest day of the week, with a pleasant 75 degrees expected! Making it an ideal day for our Friday Night Rivals Team to celebrate this week’s scholar athlete!
Meet Jennifer Waddle
One can’t help but be impressed by Spartanburg High School’s Jennifer Waddle, our Scholar Athlete of the Week. Jennifer isn’t just any high school student; she’s an accomplished swim team athlete, a dedicated student council member, a community hero, and a school president too!
Her athletic skills speak for themselves โโ she swam at varsity level from her 7th grade to 12th, lettered in 9th grade, and was a valuable asset to the State Team throughout her 9th to 11th grade years.
When it comes to leadership, she’s absolutely top-class. Ever since elementary school, Jennifer has been an integral part of student council, serving as her Class President from 8th-11th grade, and even taking on the mantle of Student Body President in her 12th grade.
Jennifer’s academic prowess is enviable. Balancing her extracurricular activities with studies, she has a whopping 5.441 GPA. Her killer academic record features the distinction of A-Honor Roll every year from 6th to 11th grade. A recognized AP Scholar with Distinction, she’s a member of both the National Honor Society and the Beta Club. Oh, did we mention she was awarded the grade of โSuperiorโ in the National Council of Teachers of English Writing Contest in 2024? Talk about a super-student!
Jennifer’s Generous Spirit
Even with all those laurels, Jennifer recognizes giving back is important. She’s been involved in community service in many ways โ whether itโs tree planting, helping with the Mountain View Nursing Home Prom, putting together Thanksgiving food bags, or visiting the elderly. Sheโs also donated Christmas gifts for needy children, contributed to Project R.E.S.T. on behalf of Powderpuff, and is employed as a lifeguard for the Thomas E. Hannah YMCA, the Hillbrook Community Pool, and the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind. All these acts of goodwill just make her the epitome of a model student.
And wait, there’s more โ she may even win a $5,000 scholarship from Arby’s for her chosen college or university soon! The future sure does look bright for Jennifer Waddle.
Here’s wishing her all the success. She’s a part of the Spartanburg spirit, setting a shining example for the youth to be all-rounded individuals who not only excel acadically, but also make a meaningful impact on their communities.
