Former Youth Pastor Faces Additional Voyeurism Charges Amid Growing Allegations in Spartanburg County

Spartanburg County, S.C. – More Serious Charges for Former Youth Pastor

Like a dark cloud stubbornly refusing to pass, serious allegations continue to hover over Spartanburg County’s once-beloved 36-year-old youth pastor, Daniel Kellan Mayfield. Despite already facing a disheartening sum of 106 charges of sexual misconduct stemming from various counties around South Carolina since July 2023, the troubled accused is now being slapped with an additional 38 counts of voyeurism.

The Griffon of Justice Never Sleeps

The Sheriff’s Office, the community’s steadfast guardian, paints a bleak picture. The arrest is the culmination of a thorough investigation initiated in May 2023 by a dedicated team within the Special Victims unit.

Amidst an ominous landscape of multiple charges from Greenville and Greenwood Counties, Mayfield, who hails from Boiling Springs, has now been spotlighted for appalling acts of voyeurism involving no less than 24 victims. However, this latest bout of alleged ill-doings unraveled on October 29, 2024, giving the former youth pastor yet another date that will forever be etched in judicial infamy.

The Chilling Pattern

Delving deeper into the allegations, law enforcement agents from Greenville County have meticulously dissected seized electronic devices. The forensic search has pinpointed locations in Spartanburg County where Mayfield allegedly committed voyeuristic acts. The majority of these incidents, they said, took place at places of joy — wedding venues.

The former youth pastor, who seemingly had a knack for photography, was contracted as either a photographer or videographer on these occasions. However, the trust that comes with such an intimate role in a couple’s special day seems to have been allegedly exploited, casting dark shadows on many newlyweds’ happiest memories.

Spartanburg County Detention Center – Mayfield’s New Home

After an arduous journey from Greenville County, the former pastor was taken to Spartanburg County Detention Center where he was officially booked. This sequence of events followed closely on the heels of the new arrest warrants served to him this past Tuesday.

As the wheels of justice continue to turn, Mayfield, now more widely known for his alleged crimes than his sermons, had a glimpse of his foreseeable judicial future in bond court on Wednesday. The courts, in response to the severity of his charges, set the bail at a whopping $1 million.

The saga doesn’t end here, however. Mayfield will find himself in bond court again on Thursday, with offenses from Beaufort County and Mt. Pleasant waiting to see the light of day. Given the multiple jurisdictions involved, the SC Attorney General’s Office will be steering the prosecution ship from here onwards.

Deepening Concern

The law enforcement officers echo a sentiment of concern, urging anyone who believes they could be a potential victim to step forward and reach out to Corporal Tiffany Hill. This growing sense of urgency sheds a haunting light on the depth and extent of the allegations.

As the close-knit Spartanburg community grapples with this unsettling specter, it serves as a stark reminder of how swiftly trust can be betrayed, and the high cost of silence.
