Yu Shang Food Inc. Recalls Ready-to-Eat Products over Listeria Concerns

In an unfortunate turn of events, residents of Spartanburg have been made aware of a large-scale food recall from a local producer, Yu Shang Food Inc. This recall includes approximately 4,589 pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products, following concerns of potential listeria contamination.

Details of the Recall

Yu Shang Food Inc., the Spartanburg-based food manufacturing company, confirmed the recall on Nov. 9. According to the recall notification, the affected products were all produced between October 21-27. These items have use-by dates ranging from August 21-27, 2025. It’s important to point out that this recall is a Class I type, which signifies a high health risk where usage of the products can lead to serious, adverse health consequences or even death.

The recalled products all bear establishment numbers “P-46684” or “EST.M46684” within the USDA inspection mark, with product listings including various types of seasoned meats. Yu Shang Food Inc. has distributed these items to retailers nationwide and is also offering them online. Considering current circumstances, consumers are strongly cautioned to avoid these products and either dispose of them properly or return them to their place of purchase.

The Listeria Threat

The recall was initiated after the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service found the presence of listeria during routine testing. This bacteria leads to listeriosis, an infection that severely affects older adults, pregnant women, newborn children, and those with weakened immune systems. Listeriosis symptoms often include fever, muscle aches, headaches, stiff neck, confusion, and sometimes diarrhoea. Consequently, the prevention of its spread is a serious public health priority.

Response from Yu Shang Food Inc.

Yu Shang Food Inc.’s plant manager declined to comment on this food recall. However, considering the possible health risks associated with the contaminated products, the situation will undoubtedly be monitored closely by federal health inspectors, as well as local and state health departments. Ultimately, the company’s response will be critical to maintaining consumer trust and safeguarding public health.

For citizens in Spartanburg and across the nation, this news serves as a reminder to stay diligent about food safety, especially when it comes to ready-to-eat products. The threat of foodborne illness is real and taking appropriate preventive actions, such as adhering to recall notices, is a crucial part of ensuring health and safety for everyone.
