SPARTANBURG, S.C. – In a major step forward for inclusivity and recreation, a ribbon-cutting ceremony today has formally opened an ADA-accessible dock and kayak rental kiosk at Duncan Park Lake. This groundbreaking development is part of the ongoing Duncan Park Revisioning Plan.

Accessibility Enhances Recreational Opportunities

The new ADA-compliant dock and kayak rental kiosk bring the promise of increased accessibility and recreational enjoyment for both residents and visitors. This long-awaited development further highlights the City of Spartanburg’s and PAL’s commitment to ensuring public spaces in Spartanburg are accessible and inclusive for everyone. Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony And Community Event

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on Tuesday, August 27. The event was a grand celebration that showcased the spirit of Spartanburg community. The entire day, from 12:30 pm to 7:30 pm, was marked by a community paddle event. Visitors were treated to free kayak rentals, allowing locals and tourists alike to explore the freshwater beauty of the 14-acres lake. The official ceremony was held at 5:30 pm, marking the addition of the new accessible dock and kayak rental kiosk to the City’s recreational landscape.

Future Plans for Duncan Park

As part of the ongoing Duncan Park Revisioning Plan, the City of Spartanburg and PAL have ambitious plans for the future. Beyond the ADA-accessible dock and kayak rental kiosk, there is talk about constructing a trail around the lake and potentially erecting a pavilion.
