Classic Rock Band Asia Brings ‘Heat of The Moment’ Tour to Spartanburg

Music fans in Spartanburg are in for a treat as acclaimed classic rock band, Asia, brings their ‘Heat of The Moment’ tour to the city. The performance is scheduled to take place at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium on July 16, promising an unforgettable musical experience.

A Legendary Assembly of Musicians

Formed in 1981, Asia is celebrated as a supergroup, composed of members from renowned progressive rock bands Yes, King Crimson, and Emerson, Lake & Palmer. The band members, namely former King Crimson bassist and vocalist John Wetton, guitarist Steve Howe of Yes, keyboardist Geoff Downes from Yes, and drummer Carl Palmer from ELP, united to create a unique musical blend at the dawn of the 80’s.

Asia debuted in 1982 with their self-titled album, gaining multiplatinum success and establishing a firm footprint in the music industry. Despite bearing roots in progressive rock, their music surprisingly resonates with a more hard-rock vibe, much appreciated by fans worldwide.

Asia’s Musical Legacy

Asia’s major breakthrough came in the form of their landmark single “Heat of the Moment“. This tune not only topped the Billboard Album Rock chart for six consecutive weeks but also made it into the top five on the pop charts. Another popular single, the reflective “Only Time Will Tell,” broke into the top 10 on the pop charts.

By the end of the tour for Asia’s first album, the band had marked remarkable sales, with 4 million copies sold in the US alone, and around 10 million copies worldwide.

Asia Returns to the Stage

Asia disbanded initially in 1986 and was reconvened in 1989 with Geoff Downes leading the lineup. The band has been active since then. The classic rock heroes have released ten albums post-reunion, maintaining their prominent place in the world of music.

Asia had been off the touring scene for quite a while due to the unfortunate demise of their singer and bassist, John Wetton. However, in a recent announcement, Geoff Downes mentioned Wetton’s death as a partial inspiration for the upcoming tour. He expressed his confidence that Wetton’s spirit would accompany them on this new musical journey.
