Cowpens Community Mourns the Loss of Beloved Resident Jesse Wayne Rogers

A Farewell to a Beloved Member of the Cowpens Community

New day broke over the town of Cowpens, SC this past Friday, as the community gathered to bid farewell to one of its most cherished residents, Mr. Jesse Wayne Rogers. At the age of 82, Jesse had not only been a neighbor and friend to many but also had been an immutable part of the town’s tapestry.

Jesse’s journey here on earth found its peaceful end on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, enveloped in love by his family at the Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born in Converse, he won hearts across the state and beyond. Yet, it was in Cowpens that he set roots and nurtured a life filled with love and compassion.

A Life Well Lived

Jesse’s legacy extends far beyond his eminent role as a husband, a father, and a grandfather. His love story with the love of his life Barbara Deaton Rogers, spanned 54 joyous years. Together, they raised two wonderful sons, Kevin Wayne Rogers and Rodney Anderson Rogers.

But Jesse was not just a family man. An Army veteran, he also served in the S.C. National Guard and was a faithful member of the Converse Baptist Church. His contribution to society was not just limited to his esteemed service. He was also a retiree from the Yellow Freight Trucking Company, contributing to the growth of the local economy.

Remembering Jesse

Those who knew Jesse well would tell you tales of his tremendous love for golfing. His pride, however, lay in rooting for his favorite college football team, the Clemson Tigers. Yet, his greatest love has always been for his family, especially the precious moments spent with his grandchildren, who fondly knew him as Poppa.

Eternal tokens of his love, Jesse’s legacy lives on through his family – his sons, his brother and sisters in Gaffney, three adoring grandchildren, and a beloved great-grandson. The warmth of family love also extends to his numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

In Loving Memory

In honor of Jesse’s memory, the family has requested donations towards Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in place of flowers. The hope is that his love and compassion continue to flow even in his absence, touching the lives of children in need.

Jesse’s earthly journey found peace as a graveside service was held at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens at noon on Friday. Led by Dr. Ron Culbertson and Mr. Ashby Blakely, the service provided closure to his family and friends, allowing them the chance to say their final goodbyes.

As the town of Cowpens continues to grieve, our thoughts are with Jesse’s family during this difficult time. May they always hold close the joyous memories and may Jesse’s love continue to bring them comfort and peace.
