Renowned author and attorney, Caroline Cleveland is set to make a significant appearance at Hub City Bookshop in Spartanburg. This visit forms part of her book tour to promote her debut novel, “When Cicadas Cry.” The event is an exciting bid in supporting local book stores and also promoting the exciting tale that the novel holds.
The book, “When Cicadas Cry,” emerged from an idea that lingered in Caroline’s mind for over a decade. The story revolves around South Carolina lawyer Zach Strander, and his lover and detective, Addie Stone. The narrative features different homicide cases. One case dates back to 2017, and the other occurred 34 years earlier. Both cases are connected in some way as the narrative unfolds.
In 2017, the protagonist, Strander, acts as the defense counsel for Sam Jenkins. The latter is accused of battering a white woman to death with an altar cross inside a rural Walterboro church on Cicada Road. Parallelly, Stone is investigating a cold case of a 1983 double homicide on Edisto Beach. As the cases progress, Stone and Strander realize a link between their cases. Furthermore, they discover the culprit penetrating their circle.
The narrative of “When Cicadas Cry” progresses with Strander and Stone alternating between the first-person narration, giving the readers a closer experience of their individual perspectives. The narrative is further enhanced with anonymous sidebars from the killer, contribuiting to a fresh and engaging point of view.
