Chicago Bears Face Uphill Battle as Rookie Caleb Williams Struggles in Tough Start

Chicago Bears’ Struggles Keep Mounting as Caleb Williams Faces Tough Rookie Season

Chicago, the Windy City, is buzzing—though not in a good way, unfortunately. The Chicago Bears, once seen as a team on the rise with the addition of first overall pick Caleb Williams, are floundering, and he’s been at the center of it all. After faltering against the New England Patriots, where they lost 19-3, it’s safe to say the Bears’ season is taking a nosedive.

Rookie Quarterback Blues

Williams, touted as the next big thing, threw up another clunker on Sunday. With just 120 passing yards and finishing 16-of-30, you’d think he was still trying to find his footing in the NFL. Fans were hoping for a flash of brilliance after the Bears started the season with high expectations for their new quarterback, but those dreams are now dashed. The team had only managed to score nine points the week before against the Patriots and struggled to get to 15 points in the prior game. It’s the first time since 2004 that the Bears have failed to score a touchdown in back-to-back games. Yikes!

Offensive Line Woes

The trouble doesn’t just fall on Williams’ shoulders—though it feels like it might. The Bears’ offensive line has been a gigantic question mark. Williams was sacked nine times during the Patriots game, leaving fans wondering if they should’ve paid more attention to that line while loading up on skill positions over the offseason. With injuries piling up, it’s hard for any quarterback to shine when they don’t have time to breathe, let alone throw the ball. The struggles of Williams have raised serious concerns for the Bears organization, which hasn’t had a solid track record in developing quarterbacks.

Coaching Chatter

And what about the coaching staff? There are whispers floating around about possible changes, with offensive coordinator Shane Waldron being in the hot seat. It might not be just Waldron getting the boot, though. Head coach Matt Eberflus is also feeling the heat with fans calling for his dismissal. The team has never fired a coach mid-season, and Chicago might want to keep that record intact, but things could change if they don’t see improvement soon.

Need for Change

So where does that leave Caleb Williams? Despite all his talent, when rookie quarterbacks struggle, it’s a blend of coaching, offensive line performance, and, well, the natural growing pains of being a rookie. Everyone knows he has the skills to be a star in this league, but it feels like he needs something to flip the switch back on. The Bears need to figure out a way to support him and get his confidence back in check before things spiral completely out of control.

Looking Ahead

In Week 10, while teams like the Kansas City Chiefs and Justin Herbert‘s Chargers are cruising toward playoff contention, the Bears are left scrambling. Chicago can’t afford to let their golden rookie quarterback sink in this sea of struggles. There’s still time—sort of—to recover the season, but changes must happen, and fast.

Whether it’s tweaking the coaching strategy, shuffling the offensive lineup, or just making sure Caleb Williams feels more supported, the Bears team has a tough road ahead. After all, if they want to re-establish themselves as a contender in the league, they can’t just hope that it magically happens. They need to put in the work and find some solutions, or else this season will continue to slip further away.
