Someone out there is probably not having a good day, especially if they’re connected to what’s going down over at Stirrup Court in Greer in our vibrant Spartanburg County. What’s happening, you ask? Well, pour a coffee, get comfortable, and listen up, because this one’s a doozy!
Here’s the scoop: local deputies, in cooperation with Homeland Security Investigations and the Greenville Upstate Carolinas Border Task Force, are currently investigating what they are calling the biggest seizure of cocaine from a residence in Spartanburg County’s storied history. Quite a title, right?
It was the afternoon of Monday, Oct. 7, just your regular start of the week really – until it wasn’t. Our law enforcers went about their day and executed a narcotics search warrant at a residence on the 300 block of Stirrup Court area. Now, here’s where the twist comes in: There was no one home when they arrived. The place was as empty as a jar of cookies at a kids’ party.
But that doesn’t mean they left empty-handed. On the contrary, they hit the mother lode of narcotics right there in the unoccupied premises. Tucked away somewhere inside, they discovered a candy store of cocaine, we’re talking about 43 kilograms of the white stuff. To put it into perspective, if you’re unfamiliar with the weights and measures of the underworld, 43 kilograms equals about 94.8 pounds. Yes, that’s a lot of cocaine!
And there’s more! Do you remember Scrooge McDuck diving into his pool of money? Well, let’s just say there was a mini version of that too. Alongside the cocaine, deputies found cold, hard cash amounting to $419,000. That’s right folks, four hundred and nineteen grand right here in Spartanburg. The cocaine, by the way, has a street value of almost two cool million smackers according to our law enforcement friends. That’s a hefty blow to someone’s illicit profits.
Investigators aren’t resting on their laurels, though, they’re continuing to probe into the case and have developed a suspect based on evidence found at the scene. Charges are now pending. Doesn’t sound like this story is anywhere near its last chapter. Remember to stay safe, folks, and let our trusty local officers do their job.
In lighter happenings, the month of October is bringing us some interesting opportunities for shoppers. There are loads of great deals to seize on pet food and supplies, and it’s also the perfect time to get your home winter-ready before the real chill sets in. Let’s just hope it’s as successful as our law enforcers’ operations, eh? Remember, a penny saved is a penny earned, and every little bit helps when it comes to your furry friends and keeping the cold at bay.
