CU Buffs fans in beautiful Boulder were in for a wild ride on Saturday as their team pulled off an incredible 38–31 victory in overtime against the Baylor Bears. The game had it all—an epic comeback, controversial plays, and a dramatic OT finish that had everyone on the edge of their seats.
The excitement hit a peak when Colorado seemed down and out. With just over five minutes left in the fourth quarter, Baylor took a 31–24 lead after a beautiful 24-yard touchdown pass from Sawyer Robertson to Hal Presley. Things were looking grim for the Buffs, especially when Isaiah Hankins missed a 45-yard field goal that would’ve extended Baylor’s lead—but wait, there’s a plot twist!
As the clock ticked down, Colorado wasn’t ready to throw in the towel. After a few nail-biting plays, it came down to just two seconds remaining in the game. Shedeur Sanders showed unreal poise, rolling left and tossing a dart to LaJohntay Wester, who made a sliding catch in the end zone. That = 31–31 and a ticket to overtime!
The crowd went absolutely bonkers. Fans stormed the field in a wave of orange and black, celebrating as if they had already won the game—unaware that Dominic Richardson’s fumble was under review. Just when you thought it was over, the chaos was only beginning.
When it came time for overtime, it was Micah Welch who would seal the deal for the Buffs. On a crucial one-yard touchdown run, he punched it in, giving Colorado the victory at 38–31. But what a path it was to get there!
Speaking of game-changers, let’s not forget about Travis Hunter. This guy was everywhere! Not only did he snag seven receptions for a whopping 130 yards, but he also made the play of the game by forcing that fumble at a pivotal moment as Richardson leaped toward the end zone. Talk about stepping up when it counts!
The game started with a bang as Colorado took an early lead with a two-yard run from Sanders after a solid 75-yard drive. But Baylor answered back quickly with some serious offensive firepower, scoring three touchdowns in a row, including a jaw-dropping 100-yard kick return from Jamaal Bell. Fans couldn’t believe their eyes as Bell outran everyone on the field to give Baylor a 17–10 lead. What a play!
Baylor looked strong with another touchdown push, but Colorado didn’t fold under pressure. They closed the gap with a spectacular diving catch from Omarion Miller, who showed impressive athleticism by keeping his knees off the ground and sprinting for a 58-yard touchdown. The crowd erupted again, reigniting the Buffs’ spirit.
With this being Colorado’s first Big 12 matchup since 2010, you could feel the weight of history in the air. It’s clear that they’re back and ready for action. The Buffs are set to travel to UCF (3–0) next Saturday while Baylor gears up to face BYU. Both teams are eager to keep their momentum, and fans will be eagerly waiting for those kickoff times to drop.
If this game was a sign of things to come, college football fans are in for a thrilling season. Between the jaw-dropping moments, emotional highs, and heart-stopping drama, Saturday’s game will definitely be one to remember in Boulder.
