In a significant development in downtown Spartanburg, commercial general contractor Clayton Construction Co. Inc. is relocating their corporate headquarters to 316 W. Main St., a building the company originally constructed for another occupant.
Founded by Wren and Sophie Clayton, Clayton Construction Co. has been a pillar of the Spartanburg community since 1981. The company’s diverse portfolio showcases its capacity for high-end commercial, industrial, and institutional projects. Its move downtown manifests the company’s commitment to contribute to Spartanburg’s economic and cultural vitality.
This move is not incidental. It is a “strategic move” aimed at enhancing collaboration with local partners, providing a central hub for operations, and strengthening ties with the community. Todd Horne, president of Clayton Construction Co., expressed his excitement in a recent public announcement. “We are proud of our continued growth and could not be more excited to be moving our corporate headquarters to downtown Spartanburg,” he said. “West Main Street is a key corridor into downtown Spartanburg and our team is thrilled to lead the charge to help make this revitalization a reality for our community.”
The new office space has been designed by McMillan Pazdan Smith, a renowned architectural firm with a legacy spanning more than six decades. Young Office, a leading office furniture dealer, played a critical role in furnishing the new headquarters. The building was formerly occupied by Event Rentals.
The move is set to take place early in 2025. As an integral part of the Spartanburg community, Clayton Construction’s announcement fosters optimism for downtown Spartanburg’s revitalization and economic future.
This move holds significant implications for the economic and cultural landscape of downtown Spartanburg. Clayton Construction’s decision to lay its corporate roots firmly in the heart of the city signifies its commitment to foster local economic growth. With the new corporate headquarters providing a hub for operations and facilitating collaboration with local partners, the company is set to significantly contribute to the vibrancy of Spartanburg’s economy and culture.
