Cribbs Kitchen Burger Cookoff announces 2024 winner: Burger She Wrote

Spartanburg’s Cribbs Kitchen set the stage for the annual Burger Cookoff on May 4. Following rigorous competition, Burger She Wrote emerged as the victorious team among 16 contenders. The event attendance boasted a remarkable count of over 2,000 people. An integral part of the town’s culinary landscape, the cookoff strengthens the community spirit while raising funds for a charity, the Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolinas. Since its inception in 2015, the cookoff has successfully raised $650,000 and the 2024 event contributed a substantial $116,763.84 to the cumulative total.

Team Effort and Community Involvement

Over 40 sponsors, 80 volunteers, and 16 teams came together to make this event a success. Despite the uncertain weather conditions, the organisers managed a smooth event, thanks to the Children’s Cancer Partners’ staff who prepared large tents and a drive-thru option. As luck would have it, the rain held off, adding to the joy of the day. Aly Ruggio, director of Communications and Marketing, affirmed their anticipation for the upcoming 10th edition of the cookoff and their plans to make it even more special.

Recognition for the Best Burger

The glory of the People’s Choice Award was bagged by New Groove Artisan Brewery’s entry “The Jerrbear—Whiskey Bacon Onion Smash” burger. Their innovatively concocted burger incorporated The Bread Guy’s brioche, Bradford Farm’s Santee sweet onions, American and pimento cheese, brown sugar whiskey bacon, quick pickles made with Red Bordner Distillery barrel moonshine and New Groove Eats South Cackalacky Sauce.

The event’s ultimate award, the Judges’ Choice Award, was claimed by Burger She Wrote. The winning burger, playfully named “Burger on the Orient Express,” will be featured on the Cribb’s Kitchen’s menu in the next year. It boasted a mouth-watering array of ingredients; ginger, green onion, Korean barbecue sauce, salt, crab rangoon, Asian slaw, crispy wontons, and sweet chili mayo, creating a truly unique flavor profile. Burger She Wrote has been a regular competitor since the cookoff’s start, adding to the sweetness of this first-time victory.

Looking Forward

The community of Spartanburg eagerly anticipates the upcoming 10th edition of the cookoff. The charm of enjoying an array of delectable burgers while contributing to a noble cause establishes the Cribbs Kitchen Burger Cookoff as an event to look forward to. The success of this event and the champion team states unequivocally that the burgers served here are much more than mere fast food; they are a celebration of culinary creativity and the spirit of charity.
