Spartanburg residents are gearing up for a delicious and charitable day out, as the annual Cribbs Kitchen Burger Cookoff returns on the 4th of May. This much-anticipated event draws 16 teams of local chefs, burger aficionados, and community members to compete in a friendly showcase of grilled gastronomy that also serves as a fundraiser for the Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolinas.
The first Cribbs Kitchen Burger Cookoff took place in 2015, and it has since raised over $530,000 in funds over its eight-year run. The goal for this year’s event is to exceed previous years’ earnings, making it the most successful yet. Children’s Cancer Partners, the beneficiary of the fundraiser, provides critical aid to over 2,300 children fighting cancer in the Carolinas by offering food, travel, and lodging support to enable them and their families to access specialized healthcare.
The event takes off at noon on West Main Street and Daniel Morgan Avenue. It winds up around 5-6 p.m., advising a prompt arrival to avoid missing out on the alluring array of burgers on display. A panel of judges will determine the ultimate burger chef, but the community also has an important part in voting for the People’s Choice Award.
Apart from the delightful grills, attendees will also enjoy live music and other engaging family activities. The day’s entertainment begins with Echo Operative, performing from noon to 1:45 p.m., followed by The Audibles from 2 to 3:45 p.m., and The Revival wraps up the day with their set from 4 to 5:45 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased in advance for $10 per sheet, with prices increasing to $12 per sheet on the day. Presale tickets can also be bought online or at select venues, including Cribbs Kitchen on Main, Cribbs Kitchen Tyger River, Palmetto Twist, Inside Irwin’s, Ace Hardware, Park National Bank, Harrison’s Workwear, and, Imagination Station.
The competitors for this year’s event range from familiar names to fresh entrants, all eager to show off their culinary skills with unique burger creations. Participants include Bob’s Burger Buddies, Boyos Burgers, Burger She Wrote, Delaney’s, Demtek, Dray Bar and Grill, Eggs Up Grill, Heirloom: A Milltown Eatery, Initial Q, JW Cooks, The Regulars, and more.
A day out at the Cribbs Kitchen Burger Cookoff is more than just good food and fun – it’s a show of community spirit in support of a worthy cause, a testament to the people of Spartanburg’s generosity and their love for a good burger!
