SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. — Over 200 citizens are without power east of Inman Road on Monday due to fallen trees damaging power equipment, according to Duke Energy.
The power company reports an outage affecting 226 customers in the area. The cause of the disruptions is found to be fallen trees that have caused extensive damage to their equipment. One notable incident included a tree that fell across Hickory Hollow Road, knocking over power lines, in the same area experiencing the power outages.
Duke Energy is working diligently to resolve the issue and restore power to residents. “We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience this has caused our customers.” a spokesperson for the company said. They also assure residents that their crews were dispatched as soon as possible to resolve the issue.
Given the speed at which the restoration works are progressing, Duke Energy estimates that power will be restored by 12:45 a.m. on Monday night. Although, this can change depending on the weather conditions and the level of damage incurred. Residents are being urged to stay safe during this time, avoid any downed power lines and remain patient as work is ongoing.
The authorities have cordoned off the area affected by the fallen tree along Hickory Hollow Road for the safety of the public and to ease the restoration efforts. Officials are recommending that anyone who encounters a downed power line should keep a safe distance and immediately report it to the power company or their local authorities.
This incident emphasizes the importance of the community’s role in ensuring safety during such emergencies. The public is reminded to trim the branches of trees near power lines, to prevent incidents like these from happening, especially during severe weather conditions. They are also asked to report any hazardous trees or branches that may potentially knock down power lines.
Duke Energy, one of the largest electric power holding companies in the United States, provides electricity to 7.7 million customers in six states in the Southeast and Midwest. The company is dedicated to providing safe, reliable, and increasingly clean energy to its customers.
Instances like these underline the need for public vigilance in maintaining a safe environment, especially during times of severe weather conditions where fallen trees or branches can cause significant damages and disruption. In urging their customers to stay vigilant about potential tree hazards, Duke Energy hopes to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure the safety and convenience of their consumers.
