Record-Breaking Dutch Fork Shuts Out Spartanburg

December 6, 2024, marked another historical night for Dutch Fork’s athletic prowess as they celebrated their mighty 24-0 victory against Spartanburg in the Class 5A Division I state semifinals. Not only did the Silver Foxes demonstrate their dominance for the second time this season, but they also established a new school record – their sixth shutout in this season.

With the victory in the semifinals, Dutch Fork has booked themselves a place in the championship title game for the twelfth time in their history. They will face Summerville, who demonstrated their own strength by defeating Sumter, 35-6, in the other state semifinal.

Dutch Fork’s Journey to the Final

As they consistently outshone opposing teams, the credibility of Dutch Fork’s undefeated record (12-0) has been proven once again. “Itโ€™s just a testament to our preparedness and the work we put in during the week, and then how we execute on game days,โ€ said Dutch Fork linebacker and USC signee, Josh Smith. The players take immense pride in their record-breaking defense, citing it as “the best defense Dutch Fork has ever seen.”

Summerville: A New Challenge

While Dutch Fork has come out on top 12 times in the state semifinals, the final against Summerville poses a new challenge. Dutch Fork will enter the match striving for their ninth state title and fifth unbeaten season in the school’s history. The 5A Division I state championship will take place next Friday at South Carolina Stateโ€™s Oliver C. Dawson Stadium in Orangeburg at precisely 2:06 pm.

A Lookback at the Semifinal

The Silver Foxes’ defense demonstrated their might right from the start, limiting the Vikings to a mere 75 yards in the first half and 161 yards for the game. Smith and defensive end Julian Walker ensured that Spartanburg finished the match with just seven first downs. Yet another impressive feat was Dutch Fork’s six sacks and eight tackles for loss, crushing Spartanburg’s offensive attempts.

Following a whirlwind start to the game, Dutch Fork’s quarterback, Ethan Offing, established an early lead with a spectacular 71-yard touchdown strike to Boykin Bickley. This early momentum carried through to their second drive, and in no time, they were leading the game 14-0. The domination continued as they added a field goal and another touchdown, sealing their victory at 24-0. The Dutch Fork offense deserves a special mention with Offing finishing 15 of 21 passing for 267 yards and rushing for 93 yards, while Bickley had four catches for 164 yards.

“The two long passes to Bickley sort of set the tone,โ€ said Knotts. They entered the match prepared and backed up their reputation as one of the best defenses in school history.

As Dutch Fork prepares to face Summerville in the finals, their unprecedented season of shutouts speaks volumes about their stellar defense, posing a formidable challenge for any team that comes their way.
