Spartanburg, South Carolina – Eric Monteiro has recently taken the helm at OTO Development as Corporate Director of Marketing & Digital Strategies, capitalizing on over two decades of invaluable experience, time spent significantly in the hospitality industry.
OTO Development, a component of The Johnson Group, boasts ownership and/or operations of 60 select-service and lifestyle hotels across the nation. As the new Corporate Director, Monteiro will oversee the digital marketing, creative services, and public relations teams.

Monteiro’s journey in the hospitality sector started when he accepted a job role at Carnival Cruise Lines in 2001. This opportunity sparked a long-lasting passion for the industry.
“I’ve always been an enthusiast of travel, visiting places like the Caribbean and Paris from a young age, and it’s something my family continues to enjoy. Working in the hospitality industry enables me to combine my passion with my work. It’s a happy business,” Monteiro explained.
Lara Stabell-Gibb, OTO’s Vice President of Revenue & Digital Strategies, likens Monteiro’s extensive two decades in business to the building of a remarkable reputation in hospitality marketing. “Our in-house marketing team plays an indispensable role in our success, and bringing Eric onboard underscores our commitment to driving strategy and achieving results,” she added.
Born and brought up in Port St. Joe, Florida, Monteiro completed his degree in marketing from the University of Florida. His rich work history involves partnerships with high-level regional, national, and international brands, including a prolonged stint at Belmond Ltd. from 2009-2022. Monteiro’s most recent endeavor was as a marketing and communications director for the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum in Charleston, South Carolina.
As a self-proclaimed left-brain thinker, Monteiro cites strategic planning as what draws him to marketing. “I love being involved in the process: transforming a product using words, pictures, sounds, and strategies,” Monteiro said. “The business is undergoing constant evolution, keeping me on my toes and encouraging continuous learning. It’s an industry that gets better with age.”
Monteiro will be operating out of OTO Development’s corporate headquarters located in downtown Spartanburg. He lives with his wife, Bren, and their two children, Stella, 16, and Ezra, 10.
