On a typically balmy day in Spartanburg, attorney Jonathan Lounsberry, partner at KD Trial Lawyers, recounts a personal anecdote. His father, understanding the nobility inherent in service to others gave him advice that would ultimately set him on his career path. “He said I’d never be without work,” Lounsberry shares. This advice lead him down the path of law, a route where he discovered his inherent passion for helping others.
Lounsberry’s legal journey began organically, emerging from opportunities that graced his early years in the field. He soon realized that this was more than just a profession—it centered aptly around assisting others through life’s crises. “I quickly learned that this practice area centered on helping others in times of crisis, and I haven’t looked back,” Lounsberry explains.
With his in-depth knowledge in law and a burning passion for service, Lounsberry made a name for himself as a fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers as well as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. His specialty lies in international child abduction and cross-border custody issues, stemming from the 1980 Hague Convention.
Lounsberry has created a unique niche for himself—helping families find resolution and move forward with their lives. The South Carolina attorney sees his work as more than just legal representation; it is an opportunity to help change people’s lives for the better. “To know I have been able to help a family bring resolution to their lives will always be what I consider a career success”, Lounsberry opines.
It is no surprise that the legal community recognizes the value of Lounsberry’s work. While numerous awards and honors have been bestowed upon him, the most flattering recognition, perhaps, comes from the community he serves and the families he helps rebuild. Select lawyers are chosen for honors based on a variety of criteria, including their influence in their practice areas, their contributions to the state’s legal community, and their commitment to their clients’ well-being.
Beyond his practice, Lounsberry remains an active participant in the legal community, working to stay abreast with the changing laws and regulations. Staying connected with other legal professionals, sharing knowledge, and constant learning are key aspects he considers vital for his success.
While achieving significant milestones, Lounsberry acknowledges that his journey is far from over. It is clear that his father’s advice has lit a fire within him to continuously strive for excellence in his field. His unwavering commitment to helping others and restoring families’ lives, one case at a time, further underscores the importance of his work. In his own words, “The satisfaction of helping families, bringing resolution, and adding a chapter of peace in their lives is what I consider a career success.”
