Fidelity Bank is progressing toward having a regional office in Downtown Spartanburg. During the August board meeting, the project received unanimous preliminary approval in a 4-0 vote. Certain concessions were granted concerning the bank’s drive-thru, side parking area, window orientation on the Church Street facade, parking lot access, and the location of street trees behind the sidewalk.
The initial plans for Fidelity Bank’s regional office were presented to Spartanburg’s Design Review Board on July 2. The board deferred their decision, requesting the applicant, Brian Murdoch, senior vice president and market executive at Fidelity Bank in Spartanburg, to return with a refined landscaping plan and a design that better complies with the city’s pedestrian-forward urban design criteria.
The bank’s future regional office, located at 305 N. Church Street, plans to feature an 8,400-square-foot, two-story construction with drive-thru and walk-in services, offices, and training facilities. Notably, the approved design showcases a 16-foot wide plaza with shade trees at the Church Street entrance, a hidden drive-thru, bicycle rack, and parking area. The building’s one-story office wing is depicted as a sunroom-style addition, adhering to the 60% window requirements for downtown facades on the Daniel Morgan Avenue side of the building.
After winning preliminary approval, Murdoch revealed their plans to kick-start the demolition of the existing building, formerly a First Citizens Bank, as promptly as possible. “We’re pleased we’ll be able to build a nice regional branch office in downtown Spartanburg,” said Murdoch. “Looking forward to getting started as soon as we can.”
As an ongoing commitment to the revitalization of Downtown Spartanburg, the local community anticipates this development of Fidelity Bank’s regional office to be a significant addition to the economic and architectural value of the city.
