Five brave pups from Spartanburg steal the show at New York Fashion Week

In an awe-inspiring, squeal-inducing spectacle at the Big Apple last week, five adorable four-legged models from Spartanburg stole the show at New York Fashion Week. They were part of the second annual CatWalk FurBaby event, organized by the renowned women’s lifestyle magazine, Elysian. The fashion event merged glamour and compassion, bringing together fashion designers, models, nonprofits organizations, and of course, the pups, all strutting the runway for a good cause.

Who let the dogs out?

The Spartanburg Humane Society paraded their most charismatic canines on the prestigious runway, and despite clawing their way to a prize, the CEO, Angel Cox, expressed that the experience was nothing short of “fantastic.” Participating in this high-caliber event with her team, which involved Greenville designer, Christina Strayer, model, Tatum Mogck, and the apple of everyone’s eye, Louie, a young Border Collie mix, was a formidable mark of pride for their hometown, Spartanburg.

Representing the Humane Society at such an established event, Cox expressed that their confidence skyrocketed. With the attitude of, ‘If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere‘, they were not only there, but they made a striking impact too.

Tails Wagging to Homes

Four out of the five dogs landed paws first into their new homes right after the event. Percy, a spritely Jack Russell Terrier mix, instantly won the hearts of the model he walked with and her husband, leading to an immediate adoption. Ziggy, a six-year-old terrier mix, and the apple of M*A*S*H star Loretta Swit’s eye, also found his forever home on Monday.

Meanwhile, the other doggy models, Chester, a terrier mix, and Kirk, a two-year-old wire terrier, found their loving homes in Spartanburg on Tuesday.

The Starlet of the Pack

Out of the pack, the five-month-old puppy, Louie, who confidently modeled for the Humane Society, is still eagerly awaiting his forever home. From Cox’s assertions, Louie is not only very intelligent but also a quick learner. He adeptly handled the clamor and bustle of the runway show and the jam-packed hotel with panache.

Cox humorously describes Louie as, ‘Your typical puppy who enjoys chewing on almost anything but learns quickly. He is exceedingly smart and wasn’t fazed by the mass of snapping photographers during the runway show and didn’t falter with the stage’s excitement.

Such events serve to remind us that fashion can be an effective medium for advocacy and charity. With the dog days of summer behind us, we look forward to seeing more of such heartwarming tales in the future.
