Flash Flood Warning Issued for Greenville and Spartanburg Counties

Flash Flood Warning for Greenville and Spartanburg counties

Significant parts of Greenville and Spartanburg counties, South Carolina, have been issued a Flash Flood Warning until 3 AM as a result of nearly stationary thunderstorms that have been pouring down substantial quantities of rain for a period extending beyond two hours. Flash flooding is anticipated or currently ongoing in the areas affected by the warning. The heavy rainfall is causing immediate flooding, particularly in low lying regions within Northeastern Greenville County and Northern Spartanburg County.

Sustained rainfall leading to potentially hazardous conditions

Reports indicate that between 2 and 4 inches of rain have already fallen, and a further 1 to 2 inches are anticipated within the warned area. This incessant rainfall has caused a critical situation in certain parts of Spartanburg County such as Boiling Springs, Welford, and the Asheville Highway area. Situations of extreme danger have been reported with some residences becoming flooded and vehicles getting submerged.

Expected Areas of Impact

The flash flooding is expected to extend to several other locations and potentially impact smaller creeks and streams, low-lying highways and streets, underpasses, and areas with poor drainage mechanisms. Specifically, regions within Taylors, Tigerville, and Lake Robinson are anticipated to bear the brunt of the flooding. Sudden rises can also be expected along the Beaverdam Creek and other tributaries to the South Tyger River beneath the Tigerville area.

Residents urged to exercise caution

As this warning takes place at night, residents are being urged to have a heightened level of caution as it poses increased difficulty in recognizing the dangers of flooding. People located within the warned regions are encouraged to stay on high alert, taking notice of their surroundings and strictly avoiding any attempts to drive on flooded roads.

Stay Safe and Stay Prepared

The importance of staying safe during such severe weather conditions cannot be overstated. As we continue to update you with the latest information on the flood situation, we urge residents to follow the guidelines and safety measures issued by local authorities. This includes avoiding low-lying areas prone to flooding, staying away from bodies of water such as rivers and creeks, and staying indoors during heavy rainfall.

We hope those in the affected areas remain safe, and we urge everyone to stay updated with the latest weather report from HERE News Network.
