Flash Flood Warning in Greenville, Spartanburg Counties Until 3 A.M.
GREENVILLE, S.C. – A flash flood warning has been issued for northeastern Greenville County and Northern Spartanburg County, which is expected to remain in effect until 3 AM. This is due to a nearly stationary thunderstorm that has been producing heavy rainfall across the said portions for over two hours, leading to flash flooding in low-lying areas.
Heavy Rainfall Causes Flooding and Damage
As of now, between 2 and 4 inches of rain have already fallen in the warned area, with an additional rainfall between 1 to 2 inches still predicted to occur. Consequently, flash flooding is ongoing and is anticipated to escalate shortly in the warning area. It is important for residents in these locations to prepare for any imminent danger associated with the flooding.
In Spartanburg County, Boiling Springs, Welford, and the Ashville Highway area have been hit hard by the floods, with numerous reports of flooding emerging from these places. The flooded areas include some residences and several submerged cars. Meanwhile, similar incidents are likely to happen in other low-lying areas like Taylors, Tigerville, and Lake Robinson, due to consistent heavy rainfall.
Rising Concerns Along Beaverdam Creek and South Tyger River Tributaries
Especially critical are locations near the small creeks and streams, low-lying highways and streets underpasses, as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas, where flash flooding can take place rapidly due to the rising of the water level. Particularly, rapid rises are anticipated along the Beaverdam Creek and other tributaries to the South Tyger River below the Tigerville area.
