‘Rock of this family:’ Son-in-law of Pedestrian Killed Speaks out During Court, Suspect Denied Bond

A Tragic Incident in Greenville County, S.C.

In a shocking incident that occurred on Monday, a 75-year-old pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run while standing in their yard in Greenville County. The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) confirmed that the incident happened around 3:57 p.m. near Woody Creek Road on Sweetwater Road. The pedestrian was on private property when a vehicle traveling east on Sweetwater Road veered off and struck the victim, who was declared dead at the scene. The victim was identified as Robert Daniel Dobbs.

Felonious Hit-and-Run

In a developing investigation, the SCHP reported that the driver, following the crash, left the scene. However, they were later apprehended and identified as Tyler Roberts. He is currently facing severe charges including felony DUI involving death and felony hit-and-run with death charges.

Suspect Denied Bond

In a court hearing on Tuesday, Roberts was denied bond as he faces the stiff charges. Detailed investigations into the incident are still underway as authorities process this tragic event.

A Family Speaks Out

During the court hearing, the son-in-law of the victim delivered a heartfelt speech on behalf of the family. It was revealed that Dobbs was trimming weeds in his front yard at the time of the tragic accident. The son-n-law further added that Dobbs was not just a cherished family member, but also a fatherly figure to many others. “He was the rock of this family,” the son-in-law lamented.

This loss is being felt not only by the immediate family but also by those who knew Dobbs as a caring and kind-hearted individual.

Continuing Investigation

As the story develops, more updates on the case are to be expected, and yet the Dobbs family, their friends, and neighbors are left to grieve a significant loss as they navigate this difficult time.

The strict charges and the bond denial for Roberts serve as a stark reminder of the potential severe consequences of DUI and hit-and-run offenses. Ensuring the culprits are held accountable for their actions ultimately conveys a critical message about responsible driving behavior.
