Greenville-Spartanburg Airport Bolsters Air Connections

In an exciting development for air travel, Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) has announced the initiation of its first crossover jet services, boosting connectivity from the Upstate South Carolina region. Breeze Airways is set to introduce five new routes, enhancing its domestic network in the United States.

Overview of Services

The newly introduced routes will connect GSP to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Hartford, CT, Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport (PVD) in Providence, RI, along with connections to Orlando International Airport (MCO) in Orlando, and Tampa International Airport (TPA) in Tampa, FL. With this addition of routes, GSP welcomes Breeze Airways as its eighth operating airline. This also means the inauguration of the airport’s first-ever nonstop service to Los Angeles, Hartford, and Providence.

Rising Passenger Traffic

The GSP airport, which has seen a steady increase in its passenger traffic, served an impressive 2.5 million passengers in 2023, nearing its pre-pandemic numbers. The airport provides 50 everyday departures to 22 destinations. It was recognized as the ‘Best small airport in North America’ by the Airport Council International in 2022.

Enhancing Infrastructure

To accommodate this growth, the airport is undergoing an extensive upgrade and expansion plan. This includes a new parking garage, expansion of terminal’s Concourse B, and enlarging the air cargo apron. The upcoming five-year phase concentrates on broad improvements such as air cargo apron building expansion, baggage claim enhancements, and reconstruction of the terminal curb.

David Neeleman, founder and CEO of Breeze Airways, expressed his excitement towards this partnership with GSP, “Breeze is thrilled to add Greenville-Spartanburg to our route map, as we connect cities without existing nonstop service.”

Greenville-Spartanburg Airport District’s president and CEO, Dave Edwards, echoed this sentiment. He stated, “These markets have been among our most requested destinations and GSP is thrilled to make this new service a reality.” He further noted the growing number of people from the Northeast and West Coast choosing to live and work in the Carolinas, suggesting that Breeze’s new service would greatly enhance regional accessibility.

This advancement in the GSP airport’s connectivity is powered by Breeze Airways’ fleet of Airbus A220-300s. These new services will further strengthen the aviation landscape, providing better options for travellers, and contributing to the overall growth of the aviation industry.
