Spartanburg Medical Center is a research and teaching hospital with two Spartanburg locations: Spartanburg Medical Center — East Wood Street and Spartanburg Medical Center — Mary Black Drive. Spartanburg Medical Center, which has 747 beds, provides diagnosis and treatment to citizens of Upstate South Carolina. Spartanburg Medical Center—Mary Black Campus, formerly Mary Black Memorial Hospital, joined the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System in 2019.
The Heart Center, the Center for Women, Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute, Weight Loss Services, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit services, Rehabilitation Services, Sleep Centers, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and the Outpatient Center are all part of Spartanburg Medical Center.
Spartanburg Medical Center was the first in the United States to establish a comprehensive Hospital Emergency Response Team (HERT). After Spartanburg Regional dispatched employees to assist in the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) operations during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005, HERT was developed. A team is a group of clinical and non-clinical volunteers who help healthcare operations in order to keep healthcare infrastructure running during times of disaster.
Spartanburg Medical Center also houses the state’s first Joint Commission-accredited Chest Pain and Primary Stroke Centers.
