Welcome to Spartanburg, folks! The air might be a bit chilly and the sky partly cloudy, but that’s not stopping our city from spreading the holiday cheer. All eyes are on our bustling community as it prepares to celebrate the Christmas season in grand old style.
Spartanburg’s 30th annual Dickens Of A Christmas
On December 3, get ready to feel a little holiday magic at the very heart of our town. Our annual event – the 30th Dickens Of a Christmas – plans to light up downtown again. This magnificent gift to the city includes live music from the choirs and local high school bands making East Main Street dance. If that wasn’t enough, we’ll switch on the Christmas tree lights at Denny’s Plaza later in the evening for a festive touch.
And a word of advice for all you drivers out there – several roads, including Main and Broad streets, will be cordoned off straight from Daniel Morgan Avenue to Converse Street. We need our space to spread the joy!
But the celebrations don’t stop there. If singing along to Christmas carols by candlelight touches your holiday spirit, mark your calendars for December 15. You can join us at First Baptist Church in Spartanburg for “Christmas on Main Street: Carols by Candlelight.”
Still thirsting for more holiday cheer? Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium is decked out with a line-up of shows throughout December. The renowned Robert Earl Keen brings his festive show “Lights, Camera, Christmas!” to us on December 3. If your holiday taste bends more towards modern twists, you can catch the Hip Hop Nutcracker on December 27.
Aside from the holiday festivities, Spartanburg has much more in store for music lovers. We’ll have singer-songwriter Andrew Peterson presenting the Advent song cycle “Behold the Lamb of God: The True Tall Tale of the Coming of Christ,” on December 12. The event will also feature guest artists such as Jess Ray, The Arcadian Wild, Andrew Osenga, Andy Gullahorn, Jim Phillips, and Skye Peterson.
On December 13, we’re excited to host local natural-born performers, the “Bill and Tad’s Excellent Duo.” An acoustic duo from Spartanburg, they’ve been delighting audiences with their blend of originals and ’60s and ’70s classics for a good eight years now.
Or, why not step into an enchanted spectacle with the all-new Cirque Musica Holiday Wonderland on December 17? This show will leave you in awe with its gravity-defying acrobatics, aerial feats, and harmonious musicians and singers.
No matter what you’re into, Spartanburg is geared up to make your December unforgettable. Come join us as we balance the cold winds with heart-warming festivities. Let’s celebrate this holiday season together, Spartanburg style. Here’s to a very merry Christmas to all!
