The newly formed Hub City Spartanburgers are set to debut in 2025, featuring an exciting roster of 30 players, including top prospects from the Texas Rangers. Fans can look forward to the season opener on April 4, 2025, against the Aberdeen IronBirds, followed by their home opener on April 15, 2025, at Fifth Third Park. With a talented mix of new and experienced players, the Spartanburgers are gearing up for a thrilling new chapter in local sports history.
Excitement is in the air for sports fans in Spartanburg as the newly formed Hub City Spartanburgers are about to make their debut! In a thrilling partnership with the Texas Rangers, the Spartanburgers just announced their preliminary roster for the inaugural 2025 season. The anticipation is building, and it looks like we are in for a treat!
The Spartanburgers have assembled a talented group of 30 players, which includes a perfect mix of eager newcomers and experienced players. The roster is stocked with 17 pitchers and 13 position players, making it a well-rounded team ready for action. Among the standouts, five of the Rangers’ top 30 prospects, as ranked by MLB Pipeline, will be donning the Spartanburgers’ colors this season. That certainly sets a buzz of excitement among the fans!
What’s even more impressive? The roster features the Rangers’ top three draft picks from 2024. A total of 17 players who played last season with the Hickory Crawdads are joining the Spartanburgers, alongside nine fresh faces from the now-defunct Down East Wood Ducks. Not to leave out, two players from last year’s Double-A Frisco roster are on board, ensuring a mix of seasoned talent and new energy.
One player who’s already catching eyes is catcher Malcolm Moore. A first-round draft choice last year, he’s ranked No. 5 by MLB Pipeline and No. 6 by Baseball America, making him a top prospect to watch. Then we have outfielder Dylan Dreiling, a promising second-round pick who’s also made it to the top ten lists of both publications. The future looks bright with infielder Casey Cook, a third-round pick who played at UNC-Chapel Hill, also making the roster. He’s ranked No. 25 by Baseball America, adding further depth to the team.
The team will be led by manager Chad Comer, who’s no stranger to the field after coaching the Hickory Crawdads for two successful years. Additionally, the coaching staff includes hitting coach Drew Sannes and pitching coach Julio Valdez, perfectly poised to guide the players through their inaugural season.
Fans won’t want to miss the Spartanburgers’ season opener on April 4, 2025, where they will face off against the Aberdeen IronBirds, a High-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. Following that exciting start, the team will head over to Delaware for a six-game series against the Wilmington Blue Rocks, affiliated with the Washington Nationals.
Circle your calendars for April 15, 2025, when the Spartanburgers will have their official home opener at the fabulous Fifth Third Park against the Bowling Green Hot Rods, a High-A team affiliated with the Tampa Bay Rays. But before that thrill, mark your calendars for April 1, 2025, when the very first baseball game at Fifth Third Park will see local teams Wofford College and the University of South Carolina – Upstate clash at 6:35 p.m. This landmark event is bound to ignite lasting memories for the community.
Fifth Third Park isn’t just a baseball field; it’s set to be a vibrant community-centered entertainment hub. With Wofford being the 2024 Southern Conference Champion and USC Upstate being the 2024 Big South Conference Runner-up, this venue holds the promise of thrilling sports moments ahead.
Excited to catch a game? Tickets for the inaugural game will be available for purchase starting on January 23, 2025. Both head coaches from Wofford and USC Upstate have expressed eagerness for this historic moment and the potential for future collaborations.
All in all, Spartanburg is gearing up for a grand baseball season with the Hub City Spartanburgers leading the charge. As the countdown begins, there’s no doubt that this will be an unforgettable chapter in the sports history of Spartanburg!
