Get ready, Spartanburg! Our city’s restaurant community is joining hands this weekend, preparing to feed you well while they play their part in hurricane relief efforts. “Dine Out Spartanburg” is the call of the hour. This is an event where several local restaurants are stepping up to raise funding for those of their crew severely affected by the recent Hurricane Helene. All the foodies out there, it’s time to dine for a cause!
The local chapter of the SC Restaurant and Lodging Association, along with their hospitality fund Hubitality, is the driving force behind the campaign. Together, they have put together a robust crowd-funding initiative aiming to cart funds into special disaster assistance grants. These grants are intended for the hospitality employees who faced the wrath of the destructive Helene. So in other words, the eat-outs of the town are turning their proceeds into relief funds, sharing a heartwarming slice of community responsibility. Each participating restaurant will donate at least $500 to the Hubitality Employee Relief Fund.
Your favorite dining spots like CityRange Steakhouse Grill, Delaney’s Irish Pub, Dray Bar & Grill, Flock Shop, FR8yard, Gerhard’s Cafe, Heirloom – A Milltown Eatery, Isla’s on the Square, the beloved Willy Taco at Spartanburg and Boiling Springs locations, Rick Erwin’s Level 10 and Wade’s restaurant are all set to welcome you. It is a golden opportunity to enjoy your favorite meals and lend a helping hand.
A massive round of applause to Chris Olsen, the top man at Hub City Hospitality, which has its wings spread across Willy Taco, Flock Shop, and FR8yard. According to Olsen, Hub City Hospitality was part of the Hubitality initiative right from its conception in 2022. They have already raised over $10,000 to subsidize the lost income of their team members due to power outages triggered by the hurricane.
The event kick-starts on Friday, Oct 11, and goes on until Sunday, Oct 13. If you’re a hospitality worker needing help, you can apply for assistance through the Hubitality’s website.
El Paso Tacos & Tequila (located at 149 S. Daniel Morgan Ave., Spartanburg) is also joining the wave of support, accepting donations for the Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry till the end of the month. They have opened their doors for donated goods like bottled water, non-perishables, hygiene supplies, and cleaning supplies. So, while you enjoy a meal, drop off any supplies you can spare.
And let’s not forget Cyclops Cyderi & Brewery (at 197 E. St. John St., Spartanburg). This brewery is standing as a beacon of hope for individuals in need located in Fairview, N.C. They are accepting non-perishable food, warm clothes, toiletries, sleeping bags, paper towels, tissues, and more until October 15. Feel free to make a stop and drop off some items or offer monetary donations.
Spartanburg, our city’s restaurants are doing their bit to be more than just favorite dining spots and reaching out to help those who serve us. Let’s do ours by stepping out and dining at these amazing restaurants. They’re more than ready to serve you your favorite dishes, while we all serve a grander cause!
