GREENVILLE, S.C. – An essential project by the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT), the I-85 road work that stretches from Spartanburg to Gaffney, is set for completion this year, it has been confirmed. The work, which covers a span of eleven miles, is expected to be fully finished and open by the end of 2024.
This undertaking is part of the larger I-85 Widening Project slated for completion in 2025. The purpose of this project is to rehabilitate and widen the lanes from mile marker 77 to mile marker 80 in Spartanburg County. The existing four-lane interstate will also expand to six lanes between mile marker 80 and mile marker 98 in Cherokee County.

Significant strides have been made regarding the work on the eleven-mile stretch from Spartanburg to Gaffney. The project’s timely completion signifies good news for the local community and interstate travelers who have been anticipating the improved roads in the area.
The upgrading of this significant roadway is expected to have far-reaching effects on the local community and the region’s economy. With improved access and a smoother travel experience, the expanded lanes will likely see a surge in traffic, boosting local businesses via increased tourism and commerce.
The full I-85 Widening Project is scheduled for completion in 2025, representing a long-term modernization effort to improve the state’s infrastructure significantly.
