Those planning Southbound interstate travel from Spartanburg may have to adjust their routes. SCDOT has announced temporary changes to traffic flow as part of a construction project scheduled for this weekend. The changes involve the Southbound I-85 near exit 80 on Gossett Road in Spartanburg County. The construction is expected to start at 10 p.m. today, Aug. 23, and expected to be completed by the early morning of Monday, Aug. 26.
During the weekend construction, traffic on the I-85 Southbound will shift to one lane between mile markers 79 and 80 to facilitate the construction of a new concrete lane. The operation may result in delays, and drivers are advised to plan accordingly. Both lanes are expected to be operational by Monday morning.
SCDOT suggests that drivers who would regularly use this section of the interstate find alternate routes during the construction period to avoid delays and congestion. These alternate routes can be planned using the SCDOT’s 511 SC app or visiting the website, 511sc.org.
Moreover, those who choose to use that section of the highway are urged to keep worker safety in mind. The SCDOT requests drivers to reduce speed when approaching and moving through the construction zone.
