SPARTANBURG COUNTY – A crash on the I-85S in Spartanburg County has led to a lane shutdown, according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT). The mishap took place today early in the morning, causing substantial traffic delays.
The incident, as mentioned by the SCDOT, occurred on the southbound side of I-85 at exit 80. The left lane was shut down due to the crash, causing the traffic authorities to divert the commuter traffic to other lanes, which led to slowdowns on the highway.
Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene to manage the situation after getting notified of the accident. Fortunately, as of 9 a.m., all the lanes on I-85 were reported being back open and operational which eased the traffic congestion.
Local police and highway patrol responded quickly to the emergency, rerouting traffic away from the accident scene and conducting an initial investigation. As part of their assessment, they identified and documented the crash circumstances, collected any available evidence, and spoke to potential witnesses.
The emergency services worked diligently, and their swift actions, ensured minimal disruption to peak hour traffic flow, and helped keep the public safe.
While an official statement concerning the cause of the incident is awaited, preliminary reports suggest that weather and road conditions were fair at the time of the accident. This indicates that environmental factors would likely not have contributed to the crash.
Authorities are keen to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the crash or have relevant dash-cam footage. They expect this will assist them as they piece together the sequence of events, understand the crash dynamics, and move closer to identifying the cause.
Post the crash, the shutdown lane underwent a safety inspection by the SCDOT to ensure that it was safe for resuming traffic. Minor repair work was carried out, and the road was cleared of any debris from the accident.
Even though the traffic has resumed, commuters are advised to stay patient, as some residual delays might still be present.
This incident again highlights the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to stay attentive and responsible while at the wheel. Motorists are reminded that safe and cautious driving can prevent accidents and save lives.
The investigation is ongoing, and more information is expected to be released in due course. Until then, drivers are suggested to use caution when traveling through this stretch of highway.
“We, at HERE News Network, extend our thoughts and prayers to all those affected by this incident”, says the HERE News reporter who was one of the first respondents on the scene. HERE News continues to monitor the situation closely and will bring more updates as they become available.
