Spartanburg County’s Inland Port Witnesses Unprecedented Growth
GREER, S.C. – Cargo Volume Increases
South Carolina Ports have announced a significant increase in cargo traffic, attributing this development to efficient port operations and a strategic location in the Southeast. Reports have revealed an 8% rise in container volumes in July compared to the previous year. The arrival of the peak season, compounded by a growing population in the region, has boosted loaded imports by 6%.
Inland Port Greer Records All-Time July High
Spartanburg County’s Inland Port in Greer experienced an all-time record in July, moving 17,332 containers on and off trains, thereby marking a 17% increase year-over-year. As per the officials, SC Ports President and CEO, Barbara Melvin, attributed this impressive milestone to the advantageous geographical location and exceptional service provided by the port.
“The South Carolina market is ripe for companies to put new investment in the ground and benefit from direct access to our world-class port system”, said Melvin. “We deliver reliable port service, a strong intermodal network and future capacity to support growth.”
Efficient Goods Movement
The efficient movement of goods in support of customers is made possible by the South Carolina Ports team’s close cooperation with maritime and logistics partners every day. Melvin noted that it was the combined efforts that ensured a fluid supply chain for the U.S. East Coast port market, thereby resulting in significant operational growth.
Record growth amid challenges
Amid global supply chain disruptions, the performance of the South Carolina Ports has been commendable, with growth even in challenging times. The robust numbers are not only a testament to the strength of the Southeast’s economy and the broad-based recovery in global trade, but also to the quality of infrastructure, workforce, and customer service from companies operating in this region.
These numbers substantiate the importance of South Carolina’s port system to the state’s economy, particularly as it continues to attract new investments and generate jobs. Its record performance is expected to contribute further to the region’s blossoming business landscape, offering a pathway for future economic prosperity.
Port officials are hopeful that the upward trajectory will continue, aiding in regional economic development and solidifying the port’s status as a premiere national hub for commerce and trade.
