Inmate Succumbs to Medical Condition at Spartanburg County Prison

Terry Moore, a 63-year-old inmate at Tyger River Correctional Institution passed away on Sunday Morning.

Inmate’s Death at Tyger River Correctional

In a tragic turn of events, an inmate at the Tyger River Correctional Institution in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, died on Sunday morning. Terry Moore, 63, succumbed at 7:22 a.m., as confirmed by Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger.

The prison authorities reported that Moore was under treatment for a medical condition before his unfortunate demise. The staff reported no signs of ill-treatment or abuse related to the death. The case remains under investigation, with a forensic examination set to be completed Monday morning.

Prison Death: No Signs of Foul Play

The Department of Corrections spokesperson, Chrysti Shain, clarified that there was no concrete evidence of any foul play in relation to Moore’s passing. She revealed to the Here News Network that the circumstances of Moore’s death seemed normal with no suspicious activity noted as of the initial inquiry.

“We ask that you please remember the family of Mr. Moore in your thoughts and prayers during their time of loss and grief,” Coroner Clevenger humbly requested.

Deaths at Tyger River Correctional Institution

A study conducted via Incarceration Transparency South Carolina, highlighted a concern worthy trend in the correctional facility. Project supported by Assistant Professor, Madalyn Wasilczuk, from the University of South Carolina Law School revealed that 18 inmates died at the facility between 2015 and 2021.

In addition to these cases, there have been two reported deaths in 2022, one last year and one earlier this year on Jan. 2. However, there have been no calls so far for the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division to investigate Moore’s death specifically.

Public safety and conditions within correctional facilities have become a pressing issue in recent years. Despite the dire circumstances, the incidence of deaths at the Tyger River Correctional Institution is being looked at with great seriousness by authorities. The Department of Corrections remains devoted to improving conditions and minimizing any potential threats to inmate health and safety.
