Spartanburg, South Carolina, is all set to host its third annual Juneteenth celebration weekend spanning over three days, starting from Thursday, June 13, and lasting till Saturday, June 15. The city promises an array of engaging activities for all attendees during the commemorative event.
The celebrations will get underway on Thursday, June 13, with an enlightening event at Wofford College. The attendees will have the opportunity to watch an impactful documentary, followed by an in-depth panel discussion, promising to be an insightful launch to the weekend’s festivities.
On Friday, the festivities will transition to Love Where You Live Park where an exciting block party is slated to occur. The highlights of the day will be engaging DJ battles and an anticipated performance by the local crowd favorite, Soulified 7.
“It’s going to be a whole lot of fun,” expressed Aundi Hunter, Special Events Manager for the City of Spartanburg, confidently.
The event escalates in fervor on Saturday, with a bustling marketplace featuring a variety of food vendors and countless activities to entertain the attendees. “We’ll have a marketplace, different food vendors out there, just tons of action,” shared Hunter, thrilled at the plans for the day.
Hunter shed light on the intense preparation that forms the backbone of such grand events. “We work on these types of events all year long. Even though it may be six months away, we’re working on it. There’s always something to be done,” she elaborated.
When questioned about the gratification of seeing the event come together, she compared her feelings to the joy experienced on Christmas Day. “To see all of your hard work come to fruition is a magical moment,” she said admiratively.
Starting from June 14, the city of Spartanburg will witness a three-day spectacle in the form of the Juneteenth celebration. A mix of educative sessions, vibrant performances, and a bustling marketplace, this event promises something for everyone in the community. Attendees are encouraged to participate, engage, and celebrate the culture and history encapsulated within Juneteenth.
