In Spartanburg County, S.C., a well-respected pillar of the education community has announced plans to hang up his hat. Superintendent Lance Radford, whose impressive career spans 36 magnificent years, is set to retire at the conclusion of the 2024-2025 academic year.

A Stellar Legacy

Over the last seven years, Radford has deftly steered the ship of the Spartanburg County School District Two. Careful guidance and dedication have shaped his tenure and left a lasting impact not only on the district but also on the countless students he has served. “My time as superintendent has been among the most rewarding experiences of my career,” the influential educator remarks. He then adds, “It has been an honor and a privilege to serve alongside ‘Difference Makers’ like our talented teachers, support staff, school & district leaders, supportive families and, most importantly, our incredible students.”

Affecting Change & Making A Difference

Attributing to Radford’s proactive strategies and inclusive approach to education, the district, under his watch, has drawn families from across the nation. This considerable influx has escalated the district’s ranking and prestige by leaps and bounds, making it the largest in the county and positioning it amidst the top 10 school districts in South Carolina.

Radford’s retires: What’s next?

Radford’s impending departure is a significant event in Spartanburg County’s education sphere. No doubt the community will be watching eagerly when the time comes to pass the torch to a new leader, one who will hopefully carry on Radford’s legacy of service, leadership, and commitment to excellence.
