Yo, folks! We’ve got some spicy news to chew on today. Yu Shang Food, Inc, right here in Spartanburg, has ended up in hot water with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). It seems that there might be a little hitch in their giddy up with a possible case of listeria contamination in nine of their protein-packed products. As a result, they’ve had to tap out and call for a product recall. Yikes!
On the past weekend of November 9, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Services (a mouthful, we know), made an announcement that’s got our local food community buzzing in more ways than one. It turns out that some of the ready-to-eat meat and poultry products from our very own Yu Shang Foods have been recalled. And it’s not a teeny recall, pals, we’re talking a whopping 4,589 pounds of meat and poultry products. They were all delivered to retailers nationwide and sold online, so we’re on high alert here.
Let’s dive a bit deeper, shall we? These protein products that are causing an uproar were produced between October 21 and October 27, 2024. So, if you’ve recently bought some yummy goods from Yu Shang Foods, both online or in-store, please do check the dates. The “used by” date for these items falls between August 21 and August 27, 2025.
Need to identify these products? Sure thing! They’re packaged under the establishment number “P-46684” or “EST. M46684“, and you can spot this inside the USDA’s mark of inspection. Always better safe than sorry, right?
The list of packaged proteins, or the hot potato for Yu Shang, includes nine chicken, pork, and beef items. That’s quite a variety! And here’s the kicker – these may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, based on the spicy info we got from the FSIS.
Any foodies wondering, “why is Listeria such a big deal?” Don’t worry, I got you! Consuming food that’s contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can lead to an unpleasant infection called listeriosis. This bad boy primarily targets older adults, folks with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women with their newborns. For those outside these groups, the chances of being affected are less frequent but should still be taken seriously.
If you have any burning questions about this recall, you can shoot an email to Yu Shang Foods on yushangchicken@gmail.com or get a hold of their Plant Manager, Ling Li, at 408-857-090.
In closing, folks, always remember to double-check your purchases and ensure you stay healthy and safe.
