In Spartanburg, South Carolina, an earlier traffic incident had caused a significant hiccup in the usual flow of cars, trucks, and pedestrians. While the open road now remains for drivers to traverse, residual traffic impacts continue to be felt in the area. The good news is that the Story Dash Feast, hosted in downtown Spartanburg, will continue unaffected by these events!
Earlier today, if you were cruising down the I-85 southbound, particularly near exit 82, you probably felt the effects. You might even have been one of those drivers who found themselves in a temporary gridlock, since every single lane was blocked as the clock struck 9:30 a.m. The crash had brought traffic to a complete standstill.
Thankfully, in the hours that followed, a sweeter melody of horns, engines, and wheel-treads sounding on the asphalt began to play again. The formerly crammed lanes of the I-85 southbound now echo with the familiar rhythm of transportation as the roadway has reopened. But as we have all too often seen in such situations, even as the road opens, the traffic, like memories of the random songs we used to sing, still lingers. As of 2:30 p.m., traffic backs up for a whopping six miles on the southbound I-85 between Exit 60 for Highway 101 and Exit 54 for Pelham Road.
If you are one of the unlucky many caught in this jam, odds are you’re not having the smoothest ride – the rumble strip and the brake lights in your field of view are probably far too familiar. Your speedometer barely hovers around the 20 miles per hour mark, a far cry from the open lane dreams we all have.
The irregular heartbeat of the traffic, at least for the moment, shows signs of steadying itself. But if you’re travelling in the area, it is recommended to keep your favorite travel playlist handy or maybe even an engaging audiobook. You might find yourself in for a bit of wait if you’re headed in this direction.
In such times of sluggish traffic, all we have is our patience and maybe an interesting car game or two. And remember, while this may not be the perfect start to your journey, it’s always the journey that matters more than the destination.
So buckle up, drive safe, and here’s to easy travelling and open roads. Till next time, cheers!
