Man Arrested Over Woman’s Body Found in Garbage Can as Columbia Murder Investigation Unfolds

Man Arrested After A Woman’s Body Found in Trash in Columbia

Suspect Behind Bars as Investigation Continues

Tragedy struck Columbia when the police discovered a woman’s body discarded in a garbage can last month. After rigorous investigation, an arrest was made. Antonio Mark Celey Jr., a 32-year-old man, was arrested and faces charges of murder and unauthorized removal of a dead body, according to the Columbia Police Department.

The Arrest and Charges

Celey was apprehended on Tuesday when an officer located him near the intersection of Main Street and Calhoun Street. These charges were connected to the death of 32-year-old Dominique Michelle Palmero-Pohl. Authorities found her body on April 11, inside a trash can in the 3200 block of Colonial Drive.

The case was initially categorized as a suspicious death. Palmero-Pohl’s corpse was discovered behind the Q-Mart at the intersection of Academy Street and Colonial Drive. This location is a few blocks north of Farrow Road and two blocks east of Prisma Health Richland hospital.

Investigation Details

The investigation revealed that Celey and Palmero-Pohl were acquaintances. It is believed that the pair were together at a residence on Magrath Street on April 5, where they became involved in a dispute. As of now, the catalyst for the quarrel remains unknown. It is alleged that in the ensuing conflict, Celey inflicted blunt force trauma to Palmero-Pohl’s body leading to her death.

Post the fatal assault, Celey is accused of moving Palmero-Pohl’s body from the home and disposing of it in a garbage can. The convenience store where the authorities found the body is approximately a third of a mile from Magrath Street.

Further Investigation and Incarceration

No information is available regarding how Palmero-Pohl’s body remained undetected for about a week or what led the police to charge Celey. Upon his arrest, Celey was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. Jail records reveal no bond has been set yet, and Celey remains in custody.

As this is a breaking news situation, unverified information could be present and the case is still unfolding. Nevertheless, the public will be kept up-to-date as promptly and accurately as possible.
